My Love of nature in my West Virginia mountain home has sharpened my awareness of scenes that hold me spellbound and urge me to write.
As I sat enjoying the beauty of nature in my backyard, I looked at the tall, wild Cherry tree that had undergone a heavy pruning several years ago, and looking into the heavens, the Moon was still present, though waning. I sat in amazement as my thoughts began to embrace the One Who has provided all things for us to enjoy. What a blessing!
I have noted before that everything around me, inevitably brings spiritual lessons that I embrace and file for future reference because there are times that I need a reminder.
While I sipped coffee, my eyes scanned the award-winning scene of nature’s presence. I had a front row seat to a seasonal event, with a script that was written in Heaven.
Birds began to fly around the deck (they expect their feeding), Mockingbirds, Goldfinches, Cat bird, Cardinals, Blue Jays and Sparrows. They feel welcome here. A slight breeze encouraged the tree limbs to sway with the rhythm of the wind in a graceful, aerial dance.
A waning moon, an empty bird feeder and a rusty old cultivator leaning against a rickety, barbed wire fence. But what stands out? The radiant color of the trumpet vine‘s first flowering exhibit; deliberately arrayed in stunning red-orange. They are filled with nectar to which the hummingbirds are drawn and the honey bees, maybe. And then I thought, “That’s how it is if I so live a life clothed with Christ. His attributes in us, through His spirit, should make us approachable, showing kindness and compassion. The beauty of the flower on that vine illustrates for me that fruit bearing is the result of being placed in the right environment; these beautiful displays are encouraged because of the Master Gardener’s presence. (the Director of this productione humans are prone to the same conditions as that waning moon, for when other ‘things’ begin to have first place in our lives over our commitment to Christ, then our First love begins to fade in to the background, that empty feeder reminds me that sometimes I feel empty and realize my need to spend more time enjoying the Manna of the Word. And the rusty farm implement that has been set aside and considered no longer useful; it’s possible that we may believe that about ourselves, when in fact, we become more valuable to the Father over time knowing the lessons He has imparted and the wisdom that accompanies them. We don’t have to be in either of those conditions. Like the stunning color of the Trumpet Vine's first exhibit, we can allow His Light to fill us with His radiance and become an example of His glorious attributes. We are all valuable in His sight. Mt.6:26
Step outside. Look at what surrounds you no matter the season, for each one offers a uniqueness unlike the others.
